George Martin ScholarshipThis prestigious scholarship recognizes and supports nurse practitioners who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to advancing their education in dermatology. Dr. Martin, an esteemed dermatologist from Maui, Hawaii, has dedicated decades to advancing the field of dermatology. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple School of Medicine, Dr. Martin holds dual certifications in dermatology and internal medicine, with residencies at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and UCLA. His expertise spans cutaneous oncology, psoriasis, and beyond, reflected in his prolific publications and international lectures. Dr. George Martin is a distinguished dermatologist based in Maui, Hawaii, with a career that spans several decades. Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Martin pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his medical degree from the Temple School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and his dermatology residency at UCLA. Dr. Martin is American Board Certified in both dermatology and internal medicine. Since 1989, Dr. Martin has been practicing clinical dermatology in Maui. He has served as a clinical preceptor for numerous medical students and residents, earning several teaching awards for his efforts. Dr. Martin is recognized for his work as a clinician, clinical investigator, and internationally known lecturer. His areas of interest include cutaneous oncology, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne, connective tissue disorder diseases, and more. He has made significant contributions to medical literature, publishing in several scientific journals. Dr. Martin holds the position of founder and program chairman of the internationally recognized dermatology meeting, Maui Derm: Advances in Cosmetic and Medical Dermatology. He is also a co-founder of the Rheumatology Winter Clinical Symposium and hasbeen instrumental in creating the Delphi-based Consensus Conferences, focusing on various medical conditions like psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. In 2012, Dr. Martin was honored with the "Palaka Award," the highest award forcommunity service in Maui County, highlighting his dedication not only to his field but also to his community. His contributions to dermatology and his community have made him a respected figure in his field and beyond. Dr. Martin’s most recent contribution is the creation of the multi-disciplinary approach to dermatology education, “Scholars in Medicine.” Dr. Martin has included nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians in the same educational model. George has had a profound, decades-long interest in educating nurse practitioners in the field of dermatology.
